Vegetation Modelling Project (Western Oregon Plan Revisions)
Bureau of Land Management, Eugene, Oregon.
DRS is providing the ongoing technical expertise and modelling software for developing and evaluating alternatives for the development of long-term, sustainable, multi-resource forest management plans on approximately 2.5 million acres (approximately 1 million hectares) of Federal Trust Lands throughout western Oregon. Sustainable Forest Management Harvest Calculations
Washington State Department of Natural Resources, Olympia, Washington
DRS is providing ongoing technical expertise and modelling software for developing and evaluating alternatives for the development of long-term, sustainable, multi-resource forest management plans on approximately 1.4 million acres (approximately 849,000 ha) of Washington State Trust Lands. The project objectives included the calculation and determination of a new sustainable timber harvest level and an associated management plan which met in a balanced way all resource objectives, met all DNR policies, all federal and state laws, and maximized revenues for use in public education and other public uses as identified by the State Trust mandates. The project involved extensive public review and input as part of the alternatives and environmental evaluation process and resulted in an approved, sustainable increase in net revenues of approximately 50% to the trusts (>$50 million US/year) while providing superior wildlife habitat, improved riparian resource protection and meeting all legal and policy requirements.
